St. John’s Grief and Mourning Ministry is offering a peer-led Grief Support Seminar to provide a nurturing, comforting place for our fellow parishioners who are grieving the death of a loved one. The five week seminar will include information on various aspects of the grief experience and suggestions for coping. There will be opportunities for self-reflection, prayer, and discussion in a spiritually uplifting environment. The seminar will be held over five consecutive Tuesday evenings, beginning September 11th from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at WLIFC. Pre-registration is required by Monday, September 10th. Pre-registration materials will be available at the parish office, and in the church lobby following weekend Masses. This seminar is free of charge and is open to all adult parishioners. St. John’s, in coalition with more than a dozen other faith institutions, will come together for a non-partisan Get-Out-The-Vote Rally on October 16 at First Baptist Church of Guilford 7504 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia. Local leaders will be on hand to address issues of Public School Equity, Diversity and Wellness, Immigrant Inclusion and Safety, and Affordable Housing and Public Transportation. The musical program will begin at 6:30 pm and the regular agenda is from 7:00-8:30 pm. All parishioners are encouraged to attend. Organized with PATH-People Acting Together in Howard.
SJERC St. Vincent de Paul is having a CHILI COOK-OFF Fundraiser on Sunday, October 21 at Oakland Mills Interfaith Center 5-8pm. $10 per person, $25 per family includes tasting of all chilis, beverage, bread and dessert. The evening will include music, special surprise guest appearances, and prizes awarded. Everyone who attends gets to vote for their favorite! All proceeds will go to assist local needy families, individuals, parishioners struggling to make ends meet.
